Tour itinerary

You’ll start the tour at the old harbor which is now a recreational area with dramatic shipwrecks and over hundred-year-old foundations that have remained unspoiled and protected for a reminder of the old life. Then you’ll drive through rocky mountain paths towards Mt.Thorbjorn, a dormant sleeping volcano that towers over the Blue lagoon. Your journey heads on to the one hundred craters of Eldvörp . If you are familiar with the Lord of the Rings movies, you can say you’ve literally just entered Mordor. The area is full of volcanic craters and we’ll make a stop for a short hike to one of them which has extensive thermal activity within and outside of the crater, where a great deal of steam escapes. This area is mostly only known by locals making it a true hidden gem.

You’ll ride alongside the one hundred crater row towards Gunnuhver hot soring area exploited by steam vents and mud pools. The ride continues towards the ocean to see the very cool rock formations of Valahnukar where there is often high waves offering spectacular views when waves break on the troll-stone looking rocks. Here, you’ll also have an overlook of the volcanic island Eldey and the oldest lighthouse in Iceland.

The adventure is not over yet, you’ll drive through a vicious black lava field, one of Game of Thrones film spots towards the black sandy beach Sandvík where Clint Eastwood filmed the award-winning movie Flags of our fathers. By the beach, there are mighty fun sand dunes and the guide will pick a cool track through them if everyone is up to the challenge.

All of a sudden you are driving inside a rocky canyon, where your guide will stop for some hot chocolate and twisted donuts. You are situated on the two continents of Eurasia and America.

You’ll head back to Grindavík and after the lunch break, you’ll continue your adventure by heading to Krýsuvík and Seltún geothermal area where you’ll see breathtaking landscapes with geothermal steam vents and volcanic craters. You’ll stop by beautiful lakes and enjoy the nature, drive near geothermal fields and explore unspoiled stretches, far from any man-made distraction.

Announcement regarding COVID-19

Dear customers,

Here at Buggy Adventures we always put the safety of our customers at the forefront of everything we do. We are doing all that we can to limit the spread of the COVID-19 virus, but we also want to urge people to continue having fun, especially during this difficult period.

All our activity takes place outside in the nature, far away from other people. We will remain open to individuals and small groups, but with somewhat limited capacity. We will also continue to take bookings for private tours.

Given the limitations that the Icelandic government has put on social gatherings and the new rules regarding social distancing, we have taken measures to limit the number of people in our groups and are putting extreme emphasis on hygiene with cleaning of all contact surfaces, toilets and doorknobs after each tour. Of course, we also clean all our gear after each tour as standard.

To guarantee the safety of our customers and to limit the spread of the virus we have put the following measures in place:

  • We will guarantee a minimum distance of 2 metres between people during the activity (exception only made for couples and family members that want to share a buggy)
  • Handwashing facilities and sanitisers are in place, as always
  • All surfaces and gear is cleaned after each use
  • Group size will not exceed 10 people
  • If our customers prefer the use of their own gear such as helmets, gloves and waterproof clothing then they are of course welcome to bring it
  • We will adjust measures regarding guidelines issued by the government at any given time.

There has rarely been a greater need to keep spirits high and have fun, and that is where we excel!

Best regards
